Our best information tells us that over 20 million people in this country have some form of treatable Sleep Apnea with the majority of those people remaining undiagnosed. Home Medical Professionals has dedicated a large portion of its business to being an integral participant in the care of patients diagnosed with Sleep Apnea as well as a catalyst for people who may be unaware of their condition to be educated, informed, tested and, if positive, started immediately with a therapy regimen that restores their quality of life. We have volumes of information and education materials available for patients and those who are concerned about the detrimental long term effects of untreated Sleep Apnea.
For physicians, we offer screening tools including questionnaires and screening devices that measure apneic events and oxygen saturation levels that could point to a form of Sleep Apnea. We can assist in CPAP clinics, educational seminars and events, and individual in-office patient instruction and consultation. We recognize that compliance with therapy is key to a successful outcome and provide the physician an ongoing update of patient progress for the physician to use in a continued plan of care for the patient.
For patients, our protocol for CPAP or BiPAP therapy is second to none. Each patient is set up on their CPAP or Bi-level device by a respiratory therapist who has years of experience and a solid understanding of Sleep Apnea and the prescribed therapy for the patient. As much time as necessary will be spent in our office to make sure the patient is educated on the use and care of the equipment as well as the fitting of the mask. We use reclining chair technology to simulate the sleeping position as much as possible during our mask fittings. Once the patient leaves our office, the experience is only beginning. Within 48 hours, one of our respiratory therapists contacts the patient and addresses any initial usage issues and will continue to follow the patient until they are entirely comfortable and compliant with the physician prescribed therapy regimen. We will continue to follow the patient through periodic personal progress calls and through use of our automated system (EMILY) that will notify the patient when they are due for new supplies. Patients can order new supplies using the automated system and they are shipped from our central warehouse directly to the patient's home. Compliance and progress reports will routinely be sent to the patient's physician to make sure that the most updated information is available for the physician to monitor the patient's progress. Our therapists are always available for patient questions when they need help.
